Installation of Advertising Structures in Dubai: Design, Fabrication, Assembly
An advertising structure is a physical medium that carries information about a brand, product or service in urban space. Unlike digital advertising, outdoor advertising works twenty four hours a day and cannot be blocked or skipped by fast scrolling. In Dubai, outdoor advertising is used on building facades, on rooftops, along Sheikh Zayed Road, in shopping centres and at public transport stops. The main types of advertising structures in the UAE market are banners on metal frames, billboards on blank building walls, three-dimensional illuminated letters, lightboxes, roadside billboards and prismatrons with changing images. Each type requires its own approach to design, materials and installation due to Dubai's climate conditions: high temperature, direct sunlight, sandstorms and high humidity near the coast.
What types of advertising structures exist by type and size
A banner on a metal frame is a fabric or vinyl sheet stretched over a welded frame made from hollow profile tube. Banner size can range from one metre to twenty metres on the long side. A billboard on a blank wall is a large format sheet mounted directly onto a blank building wall without a gap. Such structures often reach sizes of ten by fifteen metres and are used on high rise buildings in Dubai's business district. Three-dimensional letters are made from aluminium or stainless steel with front lighting. Letter height ranges from twenty centimetres to two metres. A lightbox is an illuminated box with a depth of ten to thirty centimetres and a front acrylic panel. A roadside billboard has a standard size of three by six metres or six by twelve metres for major highways. A prismatron consists of rotating triangular slats and allows three different images to be shown on a single structure. The weight of the structure depends on the type and material. A banner on a frame measuring three by six metres weighs from eighty to one hundred fifty kilograms. Three-dimensional letters fifty centimetres high made from aluminium weigh from three to five kilograms each. Exact dimensions and weight are always calculated from the design before fabrication begins.
What advertising structures are made from in Dubai
The frame for banners and billboards is welded from steel hollow profile tube of square or rectangular cross section. The cross section size depends on the size of the structure and the wind load. For a three by six metre billboard, a forty by forty millimetre tube with a wall thickness of two millimetres is used. For a six by twelve metre billboard, an eighty by eighty millimetre tube with additional diagonal braces is used. Three-dimensional letters and lightboxes are made from aluminium sheet with a thickness of one and a half to three millimetres. Aluminium does not rust and is lighter than steel, which is important for suspended structures at height. For front surfaces, acrylic glass with a thickness of three to six millimetres is used. Illumination is provided by LEDs with a twelve or twenty four volt power supply. For outdoor structures, a water and dust protection rating of at least IP65 is mandatory. All steel elements that operate outdoors receive primer and powder coating that is resistant to ultraviolet radiation and temperature variations.
How advertising structures are designed to order
Design begins with measuring the installation location. Our engineers visit the site with a laser rangefinder and record the exact dimensions of the facade, roof or support. At the same time, the type of substrate is assessed: concrete, metal, glass or composite material. Each substrate type requires its own fixing method. For concrete, chemical anchors are used. For metal, welding or bolted connections through reinforced plates are used. For glass and composite, special clamps without drilling are used. Then the wind load is calculated according to the Dubai wind map. Wind pressure in the coastal zone is higher than in areas further from the sea. Based on this data, the engineer determines the cross section of the frame, the type and number of fixing points. If the structure is installed at a height of more than ten metres above ground level, a height coefficient is added to the calculation. After the geometry and materials are approved, a fabrication drawing is created with the dimensions of each element and the welding scheme.
How advertising structures are fabricated
Fabrication begins with cutting the hollow profile tube or sheet metal to the dimensions shown on the drawing. Cutting is performed on band saws or CNC plasma cutters. The length tolerance for each element is plus or minus one millimetre. Then the elements are assembled into a frame on an assembly jig. All corners are checked with a square. Diagonals are aligned to within one millimetre. Welding is performed in a carbon dioxide atmosphere. After welding, the frame is checked for geometry. The diagonal length deviation must not exceed two millimetres per metre. Then the frame is sent to the painting booth. Sandblasting removes mill scale and rust. Primer is applied in two layers. Powder coating is sprayed and polymerised at a temperature of one hundred eighty degrees. For banners on a frame, the sheet is tensioned at the workshop and fixed with a plastic cable around the perimeter. For three-dimensional letters, back walls, side walls and the front acrylic panel are cut out. Letters are assembled using screws or welding depending on size. LED strips are attached to an aluminium profile inside the letter for heat dissipation.
How advertising structures are installed in Dubai
Installation begins with preparing the installation location. If the structure is being mounted on a facade, scaffolding or a lift is set up. For high altitude work, industrial climbers with certification and safety harnesses are used. First, embedded parts or anchor plates are installed. Holes for anchors are drilled with a rotary hammer using a diamond core bit. Hole depth is calculated based on anchor length. Chemical anchor is injected into the hole with a gun, then a threaded rod is inserted. Polymerisation time for the compound ranges from twenty minutes to two hours depending on air temperature. After the anchors have cured, the frame is welded or bolted to them. Then the banner or billboard is hung on the frame. For lightboxes and three-dimensional letters, the power supply is connected. The power supply is placed inside the building or in a protective box outside. The cable is routed through a metal conduit. After connection, the illumination is tested for uniformity, absence of flickering and overheating of the power supplies. All work is recorded in a hidden work report and an acceptance inspection report.
Who this installation suits
Owners of retail shops in Dubai who need a bright sign above the entrance. Management companies of shopping centres requiring replacement of outdated advertising structures. Marketing departments of major brands placing billboards along Sheikh Zayed Road. Restaurant and cafe owners wanting to install an illuminated lightbox with a menu at the entrance. Developers launching sales in new residential complexes who need advertising on facades. If you have a sketch, a photo of a similar structure or simply the desired size and type of illumination, we provide a preliminary concept drawing and a commercial proposal.
What to know before ordering
Minimum order is one advertising structure. Design time starts from two working days for standard structures and from five days for complex non standard shapes. Fabrication time starts from seven working days from drawing approval. Installation time on site ranges from one day for simple signs to five days for large billboards and blank wall structures. Delivery across Dubai is included in the price when ordering structures weighing more than two hundred kilograms. For lighter structures, delivery is paid separately or collection from the workshop is possible. Before installation begins, approval is required from the building management company or landowner if the structure is being installed on property that you do not own. Unlike in Moscow, Dubai municipality does not require a separate permit for each advertising structure, but the building regulations of the specific zone must be observed.
How we control quality
Each advertising structure comes with a full document package: wind load calculation, steel and aluminium mill certificates, weld inspection reports, illumination test report and factory acceptance inspection report. We record the actual dimensions of the structure after fabrication and compare them with the drawing. If the deviation exceeds the allowable tolerance, the structure is not dispatched until corrected. After installation, we perform a control tightening of all anchor connections and a ground continuity test for illuminated structures. Each power supply comes with the manufacturer's warranty and our additional warranty on installation work. If the client notices a problem during the warranty period, our team visits the site within one working day.
When you should order advertising structure installation from us
If you need not just a sign as a set of parts but a complete structure with design for Dubai's wind loads, fabrication, delivery and installation under a single contract. If you do not want to find designers, welders, industrial climbers and electricians separately. If you value your advertising not falling down during the first sandstorm and shining evenly every evening. The budget for a simple sign made from three-dimensional letters thirty centimetres high without illumination starts from two thousand five hundred dirhams per letter. The budget for a banner on a frame measuring two by three metres with powder coating starts from four thousand dirhams.
