What it is
Drywall wall leveling creates a perfectly flat surface without wet plaster. The drywall sheet is either attached to a metal frame or glued directly to the wall. Inside the frame you can install sound insulation or hide pipes and wires. The finished wall is ready for painting, wallpaper or tiles one day after installation — not two weeks later like plaster.
Two cladding methods
Frameless method — the sheet is glued with gypsum adhesive or mounting foam directly to the wall. Suitable for concrete, brick, aerated concrete and cement walls with deviations of up to 2–3 cm. Fast, inexpensive, no loss of floor space. The downside — you cannot run wires or insulation behind the sheet. The wall must be dry and free of old paint or whitewash — otherwise the drywall will fall off.
Framed method — a galvanised steel profile is mounted on the wall, and drywall is attached to it. Suitable for any walls, including wooden, painted or covered with lime plaster. Can hide any irregularities up to 15–20 cm. Basalt wool for sound insulation and wires in conduit for sockets can be placed inside the frame. The downside — loses 5–10 cm of floor space.
What we make it from
The frame is made of galvanised steel profile, 0.6 mm thick. We fix the guides to the floor and ceiling through a damping tape — without it, footsteps would be heard in the next apartment. Studs at 400 or 600 mm centres. When wall height exceeds 3 metres — 400 mm spacing.
Drywall — chosen for the room type. In dry areas — standard grey. In bathrooms and kitchens — moisture-resistant green. On escape routes — fire-resistant pink (Civil Defence requirement). All materials from the Dubai Municipality approved list.

What permits are required
Drywall cladding and leveling does not require a permit if you do not touch load-bearing structures or change the electrical system. If new sockets or switches are hidden inside the frame — DEWA approval is required. If the wall is in a commercial space on an escape route — the cladding must be made of fire-rated drywall with a Civil Defence certificate. In an apartment, notifying the building management is usually sufficient — an NOC is generally not required for cladding, only for layout changes.
How the process works (frameless method)
Free site survey. The engineer checks wall curvature with a laser level and looks for peeling old finishes.
Preparation. We clean the wall of dust, dirt and old paint. We remove crumbling plaster. We prime the surface for adhesion.
Cutting sheets. We cut drywall to wall size, accounting for sockets and pipes.
Applying adhesive. Gypsum adhesive or mounting foam is applied to the sheet in spots or strips. Spacing between spots — 20–30 cm.
Gluing. We press the sheet against the wall and level it with a spirit level. We tap with a rubber mallet. The next sheet is butted without a gap.
Bracing while drying. We support with boards or spacers for 24 hours.
Taping joints. We reinforce joints with fibreglass mesh and fill with finishing compound. Screw heads (if any) are also filled.
Handover. The wall is ready for painting or wallpaper. The entire process for one wall takes 2–3 days including adhesive drying.
How the process works (framed method)
Free site survey. The engineer measures deviations and determines the required gap — 5 cm or 15 cm.
Layout. We mark lines on the floor, ceiling and adjoining walls with a laser.
Frame installation. We fix the guide profiles to the floor and ceiling through damping tape. We insert stud profiles at 400 or 600 mm centres. We secure them with a punch tool or screws.
Services and insulation. If needed — we place basalt wool inside. We run wires in conduit for sockets.
Cladding. We screw drywall to the frame with 25 mm screws at 200 mm spacing. Screw heads are countersunk 1 mm.
Finishing. We tape and fill joints with reinforcing mesh. We sand. We prime. The wall is ready.
Handover. We remove debris. Inspection. Building Completion Certificate if required.
